PRIONSA DHUN CARAIN

A Thousand Greetings.

This Blog is for two reasons.

One is to announce my station in life and the other is for my musing on anything that come to mind.

The O'Sullivan/Sullivan name, like many other Irish names, goes back and deeply into Irish history. One Prince, Donall O'Sullivan The Prince of Dunkerron, the last of His branch, died on 16 April 1754. Every search concludes the same......he died without issue or any heirs.

Let us be clear here. I refer only to "Irish" titles not to those imposed by the British. They indeed did give a Baron of Dunkerron title to one Henry Petty and this title was carried into modern times. It was abolished, as were all titles, in 1922 by the newly created Irish Free State.

It would seem a great shame for our ancient titles to lay extinct and forgotten. If this is true then even though the British have been excised they have won by destroying our historical memory.

With this in mind I am assuming the title of The Prince of Dunkerron. Since the Republic of Ireland does not grant or recognize titles this act is one private act and the title will be worn strictly for historical, educational and social applications. Any courtesy given to the holder of this title, or any courtesy given by the holder of this title, is strictly by mutual consent and does not imply or assume any legal status.

I will use the following title:

Donall O'Suilleabhain........Daniel Sullivan
A Chaoinmhorgact.............His Serene Highness
Prionsa Dhun Ciarain........The Prince of Dunkerron

I apologise to purist but I can not put the right accent marks for the Irish words. I will try to learn a way to do it. Any ideas?

Tis it for the first time around.

Blessings+
